Worship Through Giving
The Bible is clear throughout that we are called to give generously. In Exodus 35, we see the Israelites all giving generously to build the temple. In Malachi, we see the Lord Almighty exclaim, “Test me in this and see if I will not throw open the floodgates…” referring to the blessings after bringing in the tithe into the storehouse. In the New Testament, we see in I John that the purest form of our love for Jesus is when we lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters, including our material possessions. In Hebrews 13, we are asked to not forget to do good and share it with others, for such sacrifices God is pleased.
God is generous and is the provider of all we have. At Living Water, our hearts as Elders are that we would bring honor and glory to the Lord through our personal generosity. This means recognizing that all of my resources are His, and by giving generously, we walk in abundance providing for Kingdom work now. As opposed to a scarcity mentality that has storing in the barns and worried about the day.
We want to be known as a church and people that are generous. When it comes to giving of our time, talent, and money, may the words of Paul in 2 Cor. 9:6-8 be true for each of us and Living Water:
Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
